FIA Formula E Championship

Engines at the ready, feet twitching on the accelerator and bodies’ roaring with adrenalin, the Formula E Championship is just around the corner and it’s going to be a colossal display of innovation and speed.

The FIA Formula E Competition is the world’s first fully electric racing series, where oil and smoke is replaced by electrical sparks. This new form of racing is designed to generate interest in electric cars, sustainability and hopefully inspire a new generation of motorsports fans.

Commencing in September 2014 through to June 2015, the championship will be held in some of the largest cities in the world with their iconic landmarks as the backdrop. The ten cities already announced to take part are; London, Long Beach, Berlin, Putrajaya, Monte Carlo, Punta Del Este, Buenos Aries, Miami, Beijing and one that is yet to be announced.

10 cities, 10 races and 10 teams with 2 drivers competing head-to-head in a futuristic racing experience, that you too can be part of. The group organising the event have created a FanBoost system, this allows you to vote for the driver that you want to receive a 2.5 second (from 180bhp to 270bhp) extra speed boost.

What makes this event equally compelling is that no one has heard the sound of 20 electronic cars together at the start line, then hurtling down the track in unison. I’m sure the sound is surreal but it’s one that is sure to be the sound of the future.

Tag Heuer is the Official Timekeeper, Official Watch and Chronograph, and Technical Founding Partner of the FIA Formula E Championship and have always had a passion for automobiles since the brands earliest days. This new endeavour seems a natural progression for Tag Heuer and their commitment to a sustainable future. Their iconic crest and colours will of course be lining the streets of every city and paraded on the cars.

To coincide with the event, Tag Heuer has an ‘inspired’ range of watches that equally deliver on superiority and style. The ‘calibre 16 automatic chronograph’ is the ultimate racing watch, with a distinctly sculpted case that is an impressive 44mm and houses the calibre 16 movement. This watch is the epitome of astonishing racing technology in motion.
